What will we outsource next?
November 3rd, 2008 by aaltman
Okay, so I know we talk a lot in class about the jobs that simply can’t be outsourced…..but how is this one for you:
Did you know that more and more people are going to India to hire surrogate mothers? Why?
1. It is much cheaper to go to India. There, each surrogate receives approximately $5,000 dollars. This money usually is enough for these large families to buy a house and live a better life for many years. At one particular clinic in Anand, having a baby with a surrogate costs roughly $12,000—instead of up to about $80,000 in America.
2. There is less risk of having the mothers run away and refuse to give up the child. This is because the women who are doing this have large families and are risking being chastized in hopes of simply helping out the family.
I just thought this was a fun little fact that we should look at. It seems as though you may not be able to outsource EMTs, but you can outsource a womb!

My bad
October 28th, 2008 by aaltman
Okay guys, so sorry I couldn’t make it to class today. I’ve been dealing with a family issue all weekend. I can’t go into detail, but its pretty much a don’t leave until someone else gets here kind of thing and as of the time I’m supposed to leave no one has gotten here yet. If someone could let me know what went on today that would be great. Please let me know as a comment though because my email keeps freezing on me.

YAY!
August 28th, 2008 by aaltman
Okay, so I’m new to this whole blogging thing so don’t judge me too harshly. I figure that it would be a good idea to share some info about myself so you guys can get to know me.
The name is Amy…..yay me!!
I know that a lot of times I will look really tired in this class and that’s because I am. I know that this class isn’t until 11am (thank goodnes) but I run with the rescue squad the night before both class sessions. Now I know some of you are thinking “so what, not an excuse” but it totally is. I’m not going to make myself sound oh so important and let you guys think that I don’t sleep at all the night before because its just not true. Granted, how sickly people are feeling does determine whether I can sleep or not (that and the guys’ snoring). So there it is, I’m not a grumpy person, I’m just tired but totally approachable.
I know that I told you guys in our little buddy intros that I am in this class because it is required and the only one available. Though this may be true, it doesn’t mean that I won’t keep an open mind about the whole situation!
Okay, so I think that is how one of these things should work so…I’m done.
